A Story of Trauma, Resilience, and Success
Hailing from Benton Harbor, Michigan, Jeffery McCoy Jr. is a charismatic, mission-driven leader, author, and nationally recognized voice for youth. A powerful advocate for mental health and education, Jeffery is committed to empowering students and educators to unlock their full potential—both in his community and across the country.
A proud graduate of Lake Michigan College and Andrews University, Jeffery is a licensed social worker and clinical therapist with a deep passion for student success, trauma-informed care, and educational equity. In 2025, he became a published author, further amplifying his message of hope and transformation through the written word.
With over a decade of experience as a professional speaker, Jeffery has inspired thousands in schools, colleges, and universities nationwide. His expertise spans K–12, higher education, special education, and mental health, where he has spent more than five years directly supporting students, educators, and administrators. His work centers on resilience, student achievement, and mental wellness—equipping schools with strategies to improve attendance, boost engagement, and build a thriving school culture.
Jeffery’s journey is nothing short of remarkable. Raised in an environment marked by abuse, poverty, and academic failure, he graduated high school with 16 Ds and 16 Fs—but refused to let his past define his future. Through unwavering determination and faith, he earned a Master’s in Social Work and will begin his Doctoral studies in January 2026.
Whether he’s addressing students about overcoming obstacles or training educators to create healing-centered classrooms, Jeffery’s message is one of resilience, hope, and transformation.
As he often says to audiences:
“Sometimes life gets really dark, but you only find stars in darkness. Are you a star?”
