There is a big difference between Leadership and Management. Although, I believe good leaders are great at management as well. Leadership is the ability to empower people by putting them in situations that are best for their skillset. Management is getting the best out of a situation based on what you have to work with. One of the perks of leadership is likeability. People will gravitate towards you because they feel a sense of freedom. They will also feel empowered from your belief in them to freely use their skill set. But stay vigilant, because not all employees do well with this freedom and may underperform without that gentle nudge from their boss. One of the perks of management is that there is typically more of an emphasis on expectations in the workplace. These are necessary for reaching goals. However, an overemphasis on expectations can cause employees to think of the company as a “system” or “entity” rather than a collection of people who are working together for a common goal. Causing the employee to give less effort overall and effect culture. Leadership and Management both have their place, it is important to strike the right balance between the two based on the needs of your company and employees.
